n8n Consulting
Anyone can build you an n8n workflow. The question is who keeps it running.
n8n is a workflow automation platform. You connect your systems together as a series of steps — when this happens, fetch that, check this condition, write the result somewhere — and it runs on a schedule or on demand. If you've found this page, you probably already know that much.
What you may not have worked out yet is who should own it once it's built.
Why companies pick n8n over the alternatives
Most of our clients land on n8n for one of three reasons, and usually all three.
- The data stays where you put it. You can run n8n on your own server, inside your own network. For anyone handling patient data, client financials or anything covered by a compliance obligation, that argument tends to end the discussion.
- The cost doesn't scale with success. Per-task pricing on hosted automation tools is fine until an automation becomes genuinely useful and runs ten thousand times a month. Self-hosted, your cost is a server.
- It doesn't hit a wall. There are hundreds of prebuilt integrations, and when there isn't one for your system you can drop in a block of code or call an API directly. Most no-code tools make you choose between easy and possible. This one lets you start easy and get specific later.
What a workflow actually looks like
What we do
- Work out whether n8n is even the right tool. Sometimes it isn't. If the two systems already talk to each other, we'll say so.
- Design the workflow properly. Including what happens when a system is down, a record is malformed, or someone changes a field name. That's the part that separates a demo from something you can rely on.
- Host it. On your server or in your cloud tenant, with the same patching, backup and monitoring we give everything else we run.
- Secure it. Credentials handled properly, access limited to what each workflow needs, nothing exposed to the internet that doesn't have to be.
- Maintain it. Upgrades, failures, and the inevitable "it stopped working when we changed the ERP" call.
- Or hand it over. If you have internal IT and they want to own it, we'll document it and train them. That's a perfectly good outcome.
Self-hosted or n8n Cloud?
This is the first real decision, and it's mostly about where your data goes and who gets woken up when it breaks.
Things we're commonly asked to build first
- Pulling order or inventory data out of an ERP on a schedule and putting it somewhere people can actually use it
- Taking form or email submissions and creating the record in the system that matters, with no retyping
- Watching a shared mailbox and routing what arrives based on what's in it
- Moving data between two systems that were never designed to speak to each other
- Alerting a human when something doesn't match — a price, a count, a missing document
- Stitching an AI step into the middle of an existing process rather than replacing the process
Where n8n stops
We'd rather tell you this now than three weeks into a project.
n8n is excellent at moving data between systems that have some way in — an API, a database, a file drop. It is not the right tool for driving a Windows application that has no interface at all. That's robotic process automation, and it's a different kind of work.
It's also not a replacement for a properly built application. If a workflow has grown to forty steps and nobody can explain it any more, that's usually a sign the thing you actually needed was software.
And if what you want is something that answers questions in plain language rather than moving records around, look at AI agents instead — though the two work well together, and n8n is often what connects an agent to the systems it needs.
Why Argyle rather than a freelancer
There is no shortage of people who will build you an n8n workflow. Most of them will not host it, patch the server it sits on, monitor whether it ran, back it up, or answer the phone when it fails during month-end close.
We're a managed services provider first. The workflow is the easy part — the infrastructure underneath it is the part we already do for a living. We also administer databases and write software, so when a workflow needs to reach into your ERP properly, we're not guessing.
We're based in Perrysburg and serve Toledo, Maumee, Sylvania, Bowling Green, Findlay and the rest of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
